About this Unit

This unit examines key concepts, approaches and debates in the study of gender and sexuality, with a focus on analysing the representation of gender and sexuality in a range of literary and cultural texts. Recent theoretical developments are explored in the context of pioneering work in second- and third-wave feminism, psychoanalysis and queer theory. The unit’s focus on developing critical reading skills and strategies will give students the tools to interpret, evaluate and challenge the reproduction of different gender and sexuality value systems in a range of literary and cultural texts.
