About this Unit

Over the last 50 years Australian governments, at both State and federal levels, have created agencies that seek to protect integrity in the public sector, in particular access to information, the efficacy of public administration and propriety in the management and disbursement of public funds. These measures typically engage issues around transparency, maladministration and corruption; examples include Ombudsmen, Auditors-General, Freedom of Information Commissioners, Public Sector Commissioners, Inspectors of Custodial Services and standing anti-corruption bodies. This course focusses primarily on anticorruption agencies and specifically examines the newly formed Commonwealth National Anti-Corruption Commission as well as the NSW independent Commission Against Corruption and the WA Corruption and Crime Commission.
