About this Unit

This unit discusses laws that govern and regulate information flows, such as Intellectual Property (IP) law, in the context of emerging technologies. You will consider select case studies to explore the impact of such laws on society, and be challenged to explore and formulate proposals on how the law should adapt in a dynamic technological environment. By focusing on specific cutting-edge topics, you will understand the competing interests arising in these contexts and be equipped to develop persuasive arguments for advancement of the law. Topic coverage in the unit will vary from year-to-year, as will the specific technologies that interact with the law. Possible topics, for example, include IP and artificial intelligence, trademark and digital assets (e.g. non-fungible tokens) and copyright and digital communications.
