About this Unit

In this unit, students will investigate current issues affecting Indigenous peoples from legal and policy perspectives. Students will consider Indigenous law and rights in four jurisdictions (Australia, the US, Canada and NZ) and question how law and policy in those jurisdictions has impacted Indigenous peoples and, in particular, how it has contributed to disadvantage and discrimination. The unit will explore historical and contemporary government intervention, land rights, racial discrimination, constitutional recognition, self-governance and jurisdiction as well as Indigenous rights under International Law.
