About this Unit

This unit begins with a discussion of the duty of lawyers to advise on tax issues, especially with clients operating a business. This unit then discusses the tax rules that apply to the different business structures used in Australia, and the tax integrity rules that advisors need to be aware of. The unit also covers the relevant tax issues of engaging workers, stamp duty, and the tax concessions available when selling or restructuring a business. The unit then considers how a business may be impacted by divorce, bankruptcy and/or death. The unit concludes by reviewing the critical regulatory and ethical issues for business tax advisors in Australia.
