About this Unit

The unit explores the basic principles and practices of public international law. The unit provides a preliminary understanding of how international law shapes global governance and is also shaped by the ideas and institutions of global governance. It will focus on the architecture of international law including its sources and power. It will examine a range of concepts including states and non-state entities, sovereignty, jurisdiction, responsibility, the UN and peaceful settlement of disputes. The unit will address some areas of international law in action including modern warfare and humanitarianism.
