About this Unit

This unit equips students to identify and apply laws governing publication that concern media professionals, including journalists and others employed in the various media streams. Students are equipped to identify, analyse and apply these laws when seeking and preparing material for publication to avoid legal liability while exploiting the limits of freedom of speech. In addition, the unit explores key theories and concepts in ethical reasoning and develops skills in critical thinking on issues of professional ethics in journalism and the media. Students will develop a toolkit of concepts and strategies with which ethical questions and dilemmas can be addressed.
