About this Unit

This unit explores various aspects of contemporary Japanese society by examining social, cultural and historical contexts. Students will gain knowledge of a wide range of aspects of Japanese culture and society such as; Cos-play, geography and climate, territorial disputes, discrimination, Yasukuni and Japan's constitution, martial arts, whaling, abduction and spying, lost generation, J-pop and Enka, as well as Manga and Anime. Students develop an awareness of a variety of perspectives relating to contemporary Japan, an ability to synthesise research findings, analyse information and present their argument successfully.
