About this Unit

The aim of this advanced level unit is to help students think systematically about the ethical aspects of statecraft (i.e. the art of conducting state affairs). It examines the moral responsibilities that flow from the management of national decision-making in order to arrive at principled frameworks that ought to guide political action in the international arena. The unit will engage with a series of challenging moral questions on important dimensions of world politics. It examines a range of normative perspectives on what should be done in any given circumstance, drawing upon concrete examples to help students become aware of and improve their own ethical commitments via in-class discussion and thought-provoking written assignments.
