About this Unit

This unit explores existing institutional arrangements for global governance and the management of international norms. The goal of global governance is to provide global public goods, particularly peace, security and justice, as well as mediation systems for conflict. This unit explores the ways that diverse actors are brought together to coordinate collective action. In particular, it examines the institutions that coordinate the behaviour of transnational actors, facilitate cooperation, resolve disputes, and alleviate collective action problems. The United Nations is the leading institution for global governance, but we will also consider the key roles of non-state actors. Furthermore, this unit looks at the contours of International Law and outlines the ways in which global norms are created, monitored, and enforced.
