About this Unit

This unit serves as a foundational introduction to the academic study of International Relations (IR) and is designed to serve School common curriculum objectives for global studies more broadly. Students will leave the unit with a more sophisticated understanding of the history and function of the modern international system and will be prepared for subsequent specialist units in the IR major. Topics include an introduction to the main theoretical and methodological approaches, the use of coercion and cooperation in interstate relations, foreign policy-making and diplomacy, forms of international order, global governance, and international law.
