About this Unit

This unit develops knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous communities and their challenges in comparison to environmental and social challenges faced by Indigenous communities. Enabling the mapping of the contemporary political and economic landscape, especially in terms of how relationships between nations, states, and the local communities within have been formulated and evolved over time on the basis of political exigencies, economic development precedence and cyclical policy-making priorities. Major themes covered in this unit include the origin, culture and languages of Indigenous People, Indigenous entrepreneurship, and self-determination.In this unit students are provided with the opportunity to experience Indigenous cultures and studies in an international context - observe the other First Nation Peoples landscape and be immersed in their culture. Students will reflect on culture and social norms - enhancing their ability to manage and understand concepts in a global environment.
