About this Unit

Exploration of the current psychological and counselling theories necessary to develop a successful counselling relationship. This includes the methods used to work professionally and ethically in support of a culturally safe and secure environment for clients. Students develop an applied understanding of counselling skills, with attention to self-awareness, reflecting the influence of values, attitudes, personal biases and power relations in the counselling space. Students will also develop their knowledge and skills to conduct culturally safe basic interviews, assessment in counselling sessions and ongoing support within a multidisciplinary setting.
