About this Unit

This unit provides students with skills to assist a person who may be developing a mental health crisis. The unit also explores Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, mental health concerns within communities and professional health teams, and mental health first aid strategies for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Unit content also includes: recognising depression, anxiety, gradual onset psychosis, substance misuse, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks and severe effects of drug or alcohol use.
