About this Unit

This unit will explore mental health beliefs, treatments and the changes in understanding from ancient times, through the era of the asylums and onto today’s focus on human rights and patient-focused care. Acts of parliament are examined in relation to these changes, in addition to Indigenous mental health issues pre- and post-colonisation within Australia. Health promotion and social determinates of health principles will be compared against current mental health policies.
