About this Unit

An introduction to the world of designing – the act and the outcomes with an emphasis on the domain of the ‘interior’ and its creation through design. The unit introduces the discipline of Interior Architecture and the role of the Interior Architect as a practitioner with particular attitudes and beliefs. Community settings within the city are explored as the context of the interior: the city as cultural artefact, its conditions, its histories and spaces. Students will study the relationship between idea, space, form and structure as it is related to human activities; analysis of the city as a representation of collective values; analysis, interpretation and creation of the elements of the city including interiors, pavilions, gardens, squares, streets, stairs, doors, gates and windows.
