About this Unit

This unit will focus on mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention and will also examine processes by which individuals and groups are included or excluded in society. Students will be introduced to social inclusion as a determinant of health, a public health approach to the prevention of mental health problems and the promotion of mental health. National and international strategic directions and theory and frameworks to underpin effective action will be considered. Evidence-informed case studies will focus on contemporary and emerging issues impacting populations and groups with a focus on socio-ecological influences and disadvantage. Examples may include a focus on specific settings such as workplaces, schools and community; groups across the lifespan; and priority populations including Indigenous peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
