About this Unit

This unit provides a historical overview of Australians’ involvement in war from 1788 to the twenty-first century. From conflict on the colonial frontier to the World Wars and subsequent military deployments, the unit analyses how the prospect, outbreak, and aftermath of war have shaped Australian society and the nation’s role on the international stage. The unit also links war with major themes such as decolonisation, memorialisation, trauma, gender, and peace.
