About this Unit

This unit trains students in practical research and analytical skills that equip them to complete an advanced research project in the field of history. Students are exposed to practical applications of the historian’s skills, engaging with and reflecting on diverse historical practices, research methodologies, and dealing with primary sources. Students can expect to learn about practices such as archival research, digital history, local history, oral history, material culture, and/or quantitative methods (specific practices may vary between offerings). The unit offers students an opportunity to reflect on the theoretical frameworks regularly used by historians that, in turn, guide them in their practice as creators of history, including through site visits and real-world historical projects.
