About this Unit

Image Concepts examines key historical, theoretical and conceptual issues that underpin contemporary photographic and illustration practice, and explores how these issues reflect cultural preoccupations and concerns. With a focus on developing an integrative and scholarly study of theory and criticism, students will develop their own photographic and/or illustration research project that systematically explores photography and illustration's relationship to contemporary existence. Encouraged to follow both measured and intuitive sequences of scholarly investigation, students will be challenged to develop new forms and insights into photography and/or illustration theory and criticism in a manner that recognises cultural influences on photography and illustration, as well as the impact photography and illustration has on culture.
