About this Unit

Interpretation of geophysical data is needed to; (i) construct an accurate, high value representation of the subsurface or (ii) achieved an environmental, engineering or exploration objective. A core element of this unit is seismic interpretation. Students will learn theoretical and applied seismic interpretation. Students will learn to interpret 2D and 3D seismic data in a number of settings with state of the art software. Modern geophysical acquisition systems are able to stream tremendous quantities of data from conventional or new distributed sensor systems. At the same time machine learning is becoming an integral part of interpretation. This unit will also cover methods of interpretation of seismic, electromagnetic and potential field data and introduce application of machine learning that involve integration of multiple geoscience data sets
