About this Unit

Geophysical technologies and in particular seismic methods are essential for many marine and energy applications. They will remain critical for research and engineering in the transition to the new forms of energy needed for our future. Seismic techniques help in the development of underwater infrastructures plus the safe storage of carbon dioxide. At the same time seismic methods such as side scanning sonar map the marine setting for environmental and engineering applications. Other seismic methods are used to identify whales or submarines in marine settings.
