About this Unit

This unit provides an introduction to a range of specific analytical techniques and/or methodologies used to solve scientific problems and Earth and Planetary Sciences. Each analytical technique will be covered in a work integrated learning environment, encompassing main applications, the theoretical background, instrument technical specifications, approaches to data acquisition and processing, and evaluation of the quality and scientific reliability of data. Where appropriate, opportunities will be provided to experience geoscientific analysis first hand. This unit involves a fieldwork component in which various pre-existing geoscience analytical datasets are evaluated and incorporated with newly collected data to interpret the geology of a region.
