About this Unit

This unit is an introduction to Geology, the science studying processes of Earth and planetary bodies and will illustrate various degree of interaction between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and those of the geosphere. From workshops, lectures, assignments and hands on experiences, you will learn the language of the Earth sciences, will be shown how Earth scientists utilize scientific principles to gain knowledge of the Earth and be introduced to current theories of the origin, composition and structure of Planet Earth, and the nature of internal and external planetary processes. In laboratory and field classes, you will develop practical skills in data interpretation, geological communication and critical thinking a through group activities around geological data, mineral and rocks.
