About this Unit

This unit explores integrated circuit (IC) design principles, covering both digital and analog IC design techniques. For digital IC design, students begin with Verilog and SystemVerilog basics, then progress to advanced topics such as synthesis optimisation, static timing analysis, and power management. For analog IC design, this unit covers the design of operational amplifiers and circuits such as differential pairs and current mirrors, extending to back end processes such as working with Process Design Kit (PDK), layout practices, parasitic extraction, and latch-up prevention. Practical skills are reinforced through hands-on labs using Synopsys, an industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool, to provide students with direct experience in professional IC design workflows.
