About this Unit

Energy engineering design project is a multi-disciplinary unit, which involves thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy systems, energy storage, energy conservation, management and environment with consideration for social and sustainable aspects. Both low emission energy and renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, and geothermal energy and related topics will be covered. This design project will highlight the integration of an energy system including energy production, transmission, transportation, storage and utilization. The main objective of energy engineering design project is to equip students with design experience in a customer oriented setting where required to specify and integrate the energy system, satisfying the customer’s demand and specification. The final solutions of the design project involves the selections of an integrated energy system from real-world vendors, such as a real wind turbine, solar farm, pipelines and storage facilities. Therefore, students would have experience in solving a real world design-type problems in an industrial setting rather than solving standard textbook style problems.
