About this Unit

This unit examines the relationship between language and culture and explores the different varieties of language and dialects, as well as the various styles and registers that can exist within any one language. The unit explores theories of language and language learning, including transcultural communication, to enhance the ability and confidence of teachers to work successfully in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms. Specific reference will be made to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and dialects as well as people learning English as an additional language.
