COMP1002: Data Structures and Algorithms

As someone who loves puzzles and problem solving, this was the unit for me - as that's all the unit is about. It was really interesting to see how some basic principles can be used to tackle larger problems, and I had a lot of fun with the programming assignment since it was just one large puzzle of optimisation. Since you're not learning a language, it takes a step back from syntax / coding principles and focuses purely on DSAs which reduces the complexity of the unit too! Very good unit for problem solvers. Would recommend.

This unit was a great way to learn the fundamental ways that data is stored and sorted in a computer programming context. Live fortnightly practical demos mean you have to be able to explain your code and answer any questions about functionality, but overall this unit was fun. Similar to the fundamentals of programming unit (COMP1005), make sure that you begin the final assignment as soon as it is released, and continue to chip away at it to avoid having to cram an absurd amount of work into the last 3 days. It never ends well.

Well delivered unit. Good content, lectures, labs, etc. Every 1-2 weeks you submit a practical with a custom coded algorithm/data structure.
