About this Unit

This unit aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary to manage carbon emissions as a remedy for climate change and an essential building block for sustainable development in today’s industrial world. The unit sets the scene by defining the carbon cycle, greenhouse effect and climate change, carbon footprint, and the role of carbon management in upholding UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Subsequently, it presents a detailed technical overview of practical carbon control approaches, including carbon capture, utilisation and storage technologies, and the role of renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. The unit also provides students with a well-rounded understanding of the challenges and opportunities in implementing carbon management strategies, including policies and regulations, corporate responsibility, emissions monitoring and reporting, and carbon trading and economics. The unit incorporates case studies and real-world examples to reinforce students’ comprehension of theoretical concepts covered.
