What is ANTH1000 about?

This unit offers an introduction to anthropology and sociology, covering classical and recent developments in both practice and theory, to help students understand the social world. Topics include: social change and stability, politics and power, structural divisions (race, class, gender, sexualities), changing patterns of human relationships, religion, social aspects of health, culture and the sociology of knowledge. A core theme uniting the different topics is analysis of what the 'self' is and how it comes to be, how it may be known, and how comparative studies can shed light on its formation.
